PALAU!!!!!

Tomorrow my sister and her family leave for their 3rd summer working with the people in Palau. Now, if you would have told me 3 years ago that I would be excited to see them going I would have been shocked. I fought the Lord on this for a really good time (and I wasn't even the one going). When I first found out they were praying about going to Palau to join their friends John and Jamie Zimmer I was not very happy. Such a shame! Here God had given them an opportunity to witness to people who otherwise may never have a chance to hear about the Lord and all I was concerned about was that I couldn't spend another Fourth of July with my sister. REALLY????? Jim would constantly tease me that he was going to pack the family up and go minister in Palau. Not that it is funny to serve the Lord but I'm sure my reaction to taking my sister to the farthest spot away from the United States possible was. Oh, and it wasn't just Jim. When I was little (probably 5 and Dana was 10) Dana used to pack up her flowered suitcase and sit me down by the front door. "Jana, I am now going to serve the Lord in Africa." I would follow her to the sidewalk sobbing and pulling her arm begging her to come back. We were not allowed to cross the sidewalk so Dana would put 1 foot on the street and say, "Jana, I must go. The Lord has called me to serve Him. Tell Mom and Dad I love them, but now I must walk to Africa ." I would sob and sob. Where were my parents at this time????? Finally Dana would say, "Fine, Jana I will stay for dinner, but then I must go." Dana had 4 reasons to torture me in this way:
#1-She has always enjoyed the power that comes with being an older sister.
#2- I had a speech disorder and whenever I talked I sounded funny.
#3-Dana was considerably larger than me.
#4-Mom flooded us with exciting missionary stories of people who abanded all they had and moved to exotic places to tell the story of Jesus and obviously Dana really enjoyed them.
The Lord has blessed them in an amazing way. To be able to hear the stories of the people who have accepted the Lord as their Savior have truly been amazing.
So yes, I am very excited to see them leave (I know it is only for the summer but for sisters to not be able to talk on the phone, that is an extremely long time.) because I know that this is another opportunity for them to serve and another summer where souls will be saved.
Please pray for them. Dana is still healing from her tubular pregnancy and 1 week ago their basement flooded (along with many others in Wisconsin) while Jim was gone at a conference. Dana and the boys were carrying buckets of water up and throwing them outside. Here is an excerpt from a conversation Dana heard between the boys:
Will: "Tyler, my bucket is too heavy."
Tyler: "Well, dump some of it out." So Will dumped half of his bucket back out into the water in the basement and carried the rest upstairs. Finally, Dana said she became overwhelmed and told the boys they need to pray. They got on the knees and asked the Lord to help them. A few minutes later a friend of theirs called and asked if they needed help.
Why are we ever shocked at God's Power?
Jim, Dana, Tyler, and Will- We miss you and are so proud of you!!! See you later!!!!
P.S. We are all moved in!!!!! As soon as I find my printer cord I will post some pictures!!!!

What a great post! I can see you as little girls...I love her answer about staying for dinner...

I will pray for them. Since we lived on Guam, it doesn't seem as far to me. But I know it is a long trip. I know the Lord will bless them!

Jana, I loved reading this post about you and Dana. I remember your mom telling those exciting missionary stories. No one told them as good as she did - I was mesmerized. We will be praying for Dana, Jim and the kids this summer.

Can't wait to see pics of your new house!

Oh Jana--I am sorry to laugh at you once again, but I had to while reading this story. :-) And I read it to Josh with a VERY good impression of Dana's voice. I am sure he felt just like he was there..... I will have to go back and reinact it with your speech impediment though--that will make it twice as priceless. :-)

Oh,and p.s.--I am glad you came to terms with Dana and Jim leaving. But it is so true--we often miss the "big picture" of how God will bless in others' lives bc we are so busy feeling sorry for ourselves. Love ya hon!

And I was never in your mom's jr. church as a child, but once when I was visiting you, I helped in jr. church and she told a missionary story and I almost jumped to my feet and rushed to Africa. I can imagine why Dana felt compelled to go....

Hurry up and find that cord so I can see your tiny hovel. :-)

Jana- Thanks for your encouragement for my art!!!!

Yes, you can order a custom order. You would just decide on a size first. 8"x10" would cost $25, 10x10- $30, 11x14 is $35, and any bigger I would have to go check with the post office about shipping....

Then you would tell me what colors you want and also if you want a quote or a verse.

If you have an order you can email me here: saramincy@gmail.com

Thanks!!!!

Jana, you have such a way with telling stories. Your sister used to get me in trouble by telling my mom that she was leaving because I was being mean. Can you believe it? I can't imagine being ever being mean?!:)
Hey, hearing that story reminded me of the one of your chant in the bathroom. So funny! I don't think I will ever forget that!!
I can't believe Dana is already gone. I have been in WI three months and have wanted to get together with them. I am going to have to go see them when they get back. Hey, do they have access to the internet there? I was wondering if they ever update how their summer is going.
Hope your unpacking is going well and I can't wait for pictures!!

Jana,
Thanks for sharing Dana's life with us on your blogspot page. I love reading your postings; you are truly your mother's daughter. I love the story of you and Dana when you were little; I know she did things similar to that often - she is such a character. It is fun to look back and see how the Lord was shaping our minds and hearts way back then. I will be praying for Jim, Dana and the boys.

Hey jana, You are really cool. I haven't even heard from Dana since arriving in Palau. I'm so glad they can get the blogs. They haven't always been able to do that. Thanks to the sweet girls who mentioned my missionary stories. That was such a blessing to my old heart. And you a blessing to this Mom and I love you dearly. Take care and give Alex and that Ella a big hug. Mom
